Re: Why Are New Tracks Always Added to the End? You Should be Able to Add Them After the Selected Track
To create a new track 4, you would have to move everything below that down one. That seems like a piffle, but it's not. What happens to linked tracks, labels and sync? They all have to move and you know somebody is going to try to slide a new track in the middle between two linked tracks. So you ha...

Re: Why Are New Tracks Always Added to the End? You Should be Able to Add Them After the Selected Track
Oh. It took me second to get there. Audacity adds a performance to the end of the show , not the current track. You could use the other Recording option, Shift+R which starts a whole new track on its own line. That may be easier to move around. Plus, you can use the Time Shift Tool (two sideways ar...

Why Are New Tracks Always Added to the End? You Should be Able to Add Them After the Selected Track
The subject line pretty much says it all: I just don't understand why Audacity forces all new tracks to the end of the project. This is super annoying because (just by its nature) it's rather difficult to drag a track up to a precise place in a project. You almost always wind up scrolling past where...

Re: Export of Track Lengths
I tried running the Nyquist code and it only generated the following output: "Slide 32" Start: 1191.40 End: 1199.89 Length: 8.49 ... because I only had my last track selected  . But then I selected everything and got: "Slide 1" Start: 0.00 End: 6.99 Length: 6.99 "Slide 2" Start: 6.99 End: 47.1...

Re: Export of Track Lengths
Thanks again! I do realize that this is only a concern for the subset of Audacity users who use the tool for presentations, and I have no idea how big that subset is; I just know that this feature would be very useful to that subset. My hope was that even if that subset was relatively small, the eas...

Re: Export of Track Lengths
Which version of Audacity do you have? 2.2.2 (Linux) I'd have thought that most "ordinary human beings" would be capable of looking in the Selection Toolbar (which should be readable by Jaws for VI users). I was just giving a tip about an "advanced" feature (for "advanced users" :? ;) ) Hey man, th...

Re: Export of Track Lengths
Actually I take that back; my "extras" menu has no "Scriptables" option at all ("Scriptables 11" or anything else).

Re: Export of Track Lengths
Well that was so clear and obvious, no wonder I didn't find it on my own! Seriously though, thank you so much for that answer, it will help me a lot. However, I don't think this really solves the problem for anyone but me. Ideally this "ticket" should be converted into a "make this task possi...

Export of Track Lengths
One not uncommon (I'd imagine) use for Audacity is to record audio for presentations. To sync such audio up with slides/video, one needs to know exactly when one track stops and another begins. In other words, one needs a list of the lengths of each track, eg.: 1: 1:30.234 2: 1:11.123 3: 2:01.429 Cu...

Re: Tracks showing but all waveforms gone
I had the same thing happen to me, only I'm on Linux and it didn't happen after a file recovery: I just cut a track to merge it into another track and suddenly all my tracks disappeared visually . But if I hit play they're all still there. (Audacity 2.1.2; it sounds like perhaps this is a known issu...
