Make sure ‘full keyboard access’ is on. Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts and select the ‘All controls’ radio button. Or press Ctrl+F7 to toggle that setting.

In Sierra, if I want to close a project, I choose Cmd+W

A pop-up appears asking: "Save changes to..."

The "Yes" button is selected by default,a nd I want the ability to press Tab and cycle through to "No" so hands don't have to leave my keyboard!

Sierra or High Sierra? Sierra. The track timer - which ticks away as you record music That's fuzzy. Are you recording against the Metronome or Click Track? Or it is just metaphorically ticking away?
