Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite

I recorded a few seconds with the buffer at 10, 20, 30 and 500 and it didn't make any difference. Maybe it would with a longer recording but I don't have the patience to do that.

Have you ever gotten the popping noise or crashing with any version other than 2.1.0?

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite

Buffer setting was pre-set to 100 milliseconds. I did not change it.

What practical effect does this setting have?

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite

Latest test: I found a download of Audacity version 2.0.5. I recorded over 2 1/2 hours of audio. I saved the file, no problems. Checked the audio and there is no clicking at all on the recording. Sounds fine.

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite

OK, I recorded for an hour. When I saved the file, it did not crash, but the popping sound started at about 39 minutes and continued until the end of the recording. The attached file is at around the one-hour mark.

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite

I have been getting this in log reports -- don't know whether or not it is related. See attached.

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite

I am using Yosemite 10.10.3, which I believe is the latest version. I got this from the log but I do not know when it was generated. 17:09:01: Audacity 2.1.0 17:09:01: Trying to load FFmpeg libraries... 17:09:01: Trying to load FFmpeg libraries from default path, '/Library/Application Support/audaci...

Re: Static/distortion on recording in Yosemite

I am getting this same terrible problem since upgrading to Audacity 2.1.0. I am using a 2009 iMac. I am getting the popping/static sound just like the sound posted by the original poster. This happened on 2 of the last three podcasts I recorded, and it started happening at about 30 minutes in. No in...

Re: Recording iTunes from Mac sounds terrible + audio mixing

There are computers without a line in? I'll have to check my son's Compaq.

I guess the solution in that instance is a USB external sound card.

Re: Recording

You are getting the noise because you are recording from the computer's microphone. What you need to do is use the "line in" for recording. The trick is to get the sound on the computer to go to the line in. You either need software like Soundflower or a mixer (to take the output and route it back t...

Re: Recording iTunes from Mac sounds terrible + audio mixing

Another update. I have now tested the method I was using with my old Windows computer and it works fine. No need for Soundflower or any other fancy software. Here's the easy way to record audio from the computer, whether it's iTunes, something on the web, etc. -- run the headphone/speaker output on ...
