Re: Need help making a clean export to MP3
Koz and Gale, thank you both! It is so reassuring to know that the audio problem is in fact a result of the MP3 export process and not caused by my mics or the audacity editing. I re-exported the episode into MP3 using better quality export settings. Based on your comments as well as this post ( htt...

Need help making a clean export to MP3
I believe I have a problem when I export my audacity file to MP3. Specifically: - there is a weird metallic sibilance, especially when I say "s" or "f". - In addition, there is a weird swirly techno sound in the background. It is subtle, but you can definitely hear it especially if you turn it up at...

Audio file extends too long after track ends
Hi there,
Is anyone else having this problem? My edited tracks all end at a specific time, i.e. 28:28 but the audacity file extends several seconds past it. Even after I export it to mp3 it is too long. I have no idea how to clip/trim/delete that extra bit of file space.

Re: Sequence of Normalize and Limiter
Thanks Koz. That is helpful. My recording is a podcast. I already compressed it once and set a fairly high noise floor to bring up the vocal dB levels without also raising the background noise. Now the issue is, the audio tracks still have a fairly wide dynamic range. Some of the peaks are close to ...

Re: Sequence of Normalize and Limiter
Thanks Koz. I agree about using Normalize at the beginning of the editing process too, to remove the DC offset. For my question I should have been more specific. After the editing process is done and I apply the full Normalize effect at the end, does it make sense that the audio would still have a f...

Re: Tinny sounding dynamic mic
Koz, thanks again for all your feedback. I didn't set up the wooden board like you did in your photo, but I did run out today to the fabric store (maybe the second time in my life I'd been there) and bought some felt padding sheets to use under the desktop mic stands. Thanks again for your prompt re...

Sequence of Normalize and Limiter
Normally we Normalize (pun intended) as a last step. Does anyone have a scenario where you would normalize the audio after doing whatever other compression, EQ etc you did during the editing, and there would still be a few dB peaks that you would want to apply a limiter to?

Re: Tinny sounding dynamic mic
Thanks Koz this is great.
Why lavs over a standard handheld dynamic mic? (The more you write, the more questions I have!)
Thanks,
Josh

Re: Tinny sounding dynamic mic
Koz and Trebor, thank you both for your responses. You're right that the mic is a discontinued model. It also makes sense that it''s unidirectional and not hypercardioid. Here is the recording setup I used: https://politypartners.files.wordpress.com/2017/03/ep-2-setup-hotel-monaco.jpg The condenser ...

Re: Tinny sounding dynamic mic
Koz, thanks for the quick response. I used two mics, each on their own mono track. (The MP3 is just one of the tracks, not both). Recorded it on a Zoom H6 then just transferred the WAV file to audacity on my laptop.
