Re: Best size for recording room? And what acoustic foam to
would one of these and an SM58 be a useful alternative to a USB Mic for audiobook production? Unless you have problems with excessive sibilance in your voice, I'd suggest using a mic that is a bit brighter with high frequencies. The SM58 is a terrifically robust stage mic, and can cope with massive...

Go > Utilities > Activity Monitor. I leave that parked in my Dock and launch it on occasion. Thank you ! I used to do this, then I discovered a little free utility in the Mac App Store called MiniUsage. It does the same thing as activity monitor and just displays a fluctuating percentage of CPU usa...

That's just microphone hiss and should respond well to gentle noise reduction. Voice signals from a microphone don't start out loud enough to be useful. They start out molecular-level tiny and boosting that voice signal loud enough to be useful is a really big deal. The closer you get to home quali...

Re: Noise Floor
the camera connection kit allows any USB mic to work with an iPad / iPhone While that's a terrific idea, any adapter like that has to look exactly like a USB connection to keep the microphone happy. Remember The Yeti Curse? Odd whistles and whines in the sound from bad or soft USB connections? You ...

So the frequency of the current makes a hum? One of the valuable tests you can do if you have hum or buzz problems during a recording (and you can do it) is run everything on batteries temporarily, or maybe for the whole show. That's what's going on here. Both the field sound mixer and he laptop ar...

Re: Recording noise getting worse... not better
that's fascinating. So the frequency of the current makes a hum? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mains_hum That's it. A friend that works in a power station told me how they continuously monitor the frequency with extreme accuracy, because, with the enormous power that they generate, even a minute de...

The DeEsser is not a gift from the angels. It's officially experimental and it has little tricks. For one example, I don't think it works in stereo. I will post the instruction panel as soon as I remember where it is. Koz thank you very much indeed ! I believe you advise to record in mono for audio...

A lot of this stuff you can do yourself and it's just a matter of knowing what to listen for. Open up that "...London" clip you posted and listen carefully to the first two seconds. Maybe pump your volume up a little. There are at least two clicks or clunks in that portion. I'm sorry about that. I ...
