Re: buzzing noise
It's fixed!!! The latest software release from Allen & Heath fixed the issue! Audacity worked perfectly in Xubuntu 14.04. 16.04 and 18.04 would not work: the buzzing noise persisted. No matter what settings were tweaked, there was no difference. I would have continued 14.04 forever, but when securit...

Re: buzzing noise
bump
I am really hoping that I am not stuck with 14.04 forever since in less than a year, support will be gone.

buzzing noise [SOLVED]
I had this same problem 2 years ago when I had upgraded to Xubuntu 16.04 and whatever version of Audacity was being used then. However, the problem was never resolved. So, I went back to Xubuntu 14.04 and Audacity 2.0.5. Since 18.04 is now out, I decided to try again. This is running Audacity 2.2.1....

Re: should i switch to ubuntu ? or other distro.
I use Xubuntu. Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu (and others) all use the same kernel and can run all of the same programs. The difference is the desktop. If you really like fancy desktops, then Ubuntu is for you. Just keep in mind that the fancier the desktop the less memory for running programs. Xubuntu is...

Re: Record always clipping
In the clipping one I see that you have the input (pic of microphone) all the way up? Try reducing that until no clipping seen. I would rather have it a little low and then raise the level after recorded.

Re: need speed
That's excellent news. Now I'm wondering what the critical difference is. You are not the only one wondering. 5 different machines and tons of combinations. Now I am using a waaaay lesser machine and having no problems at all. I guess that machine will die someday still running 14.04 and 2.0.5. Act...

Re: need speed
The JOY has returned. Went back to Xubuntu 14.04 and Audacity 2.0.5 on a 3.0 dual core with 4 gig RAM. No SSD: just 7,200 RPM spinner. Recorded 18 channels at 44.1 with no distortion.

Re: need speed
I was reading on Reaper's site that it works well in WINE. So, on my home machine I installed it in WINE and played with it to get used to using it. I will try and get it installed in WINE on the machine at church and see how it works there.

Re: need speed
The ASIO driver is what I installed from Allen & Heath. I also d-led Reaper and installed it. (I am doing this from home via Teamviewer.) There is nothing going on at church, so there is nothing to actually record right now to even test it. I left the mixer on when I left this morning. I guess that ...

Re: need speed
OK Steve. Let me tell you how well the Windows world isn't going. Took a dual boot machine out this morning. Went to Allen & Heath's website and downloaded the Windows driver that I needed. It says it should work with Win MME sound, but I can only choose 2 channels. With WASAPI sound chosen, I can t...
