I'm having trouble finding out which bit rate mode is which (Preset/Variable/Average/Constant Bitrate mode) In Audacity 1.3. I'm sort of new to this whole scene, but Is there a number to how many bits of data are MP3's stored in? I heard that CD quality music files (WAV & CDA) are sampled 44,100 times each second, and then stored in 16 bits of data, and at 44.1 kHz, but what about MP3's?

What are the standard bit rates (Kbps) for low, medium, high rates in MP3's? I've heard that 128 kbps is practically medium range, and 96 kbps is low, but I'm not sure.
