Hi, Audacity needed to restart to make those fields writeable. I guess it silently had crashed earlier when I was trying "everything" to solve the issue. No I cannot write any number in that field or change it. I have Yosemite 10.10.1
I have checked writing numbers with num-pad and keyboard numbers in notepad so that they work.

Well this is a bit embarrassing. I was actually going in to remove my post. It did help changing bit preferences under quality for a while, but after a while the problem returned. I have now tried a lot of the other tips to no avail. The quad capture from Roland cannot do much changes in the setting...

Hi, I had this problem too with a Roland Quad capture DAW. As it has nothing to do with what file and all to to with playback I assumed it was related to the audio hardware in combination with Audacity, I am guessing that Quad Capture does 24-bit as default and Audacity 32-bit for example.
