It's not required as there's another mechanism to recognize file types. But it is convenient when communicating with the outside world.
And I agree with the op that the "export" dialog box should stay in the location of the previously saved file. That's standard behaviour on any platform.

Re: Mac Pro optical in problem - stuck 44.1 + low pitch
The only page I found for the Goobay doesn't seem to agree with multiple sample rates: supports output sampling rate set at 48 kHz http://www.serigo.eu/avw8.html which is what I'd expect from Toslink. It's uncompressed, 2 channels, 48 KHz or compressed 6 channels Dolby AC. AFAIK it can't do anything...

Re: Possible to Fix Playhead
Depends on what you're doing. If you use Audacity as a scope, having a fixed playhead is the only way to go if you're looking for a certain phenomenon in the wave form while recording. In these cases, staring at a moving wave form is extremely tiresome  It's also the reason why some tools even ...

Re: Mac Pro optical in problem - stuck 44.1 + low pitch
44.1 KHz is default. Providing the Mac Pro's port isn't able to sync, it would stay at that sample rate. This points to a dirty optical port in your Mac Pro. You can clean those with isopropyl alcohol. You need a tiny cotton swab, around 2 mm to get into the 3,5 mm connection. And you need to take c...

You might want to look at Open Broadcaster: https://obsproject.com/ Available for Windows, Linux and OSX, free. It can certainly do what you're trying to achieve, but has a learning curve, of course. You can turn it into a streaming server, but you can also record to disk, if needed. I have downloa...

Have a look at the Audient ID14: http://www.thomann.de/uk/audient_id14.htm It's an investment, at around 250$, but one that lasts. There's an ADAT input to add eight more channels later with something affordable, such as an ADA8200 from Behringer. It'll give you 2 inputs, 4 outputs and it's the new ...

Re: Dell Laptop 3520
Little slow here... record from 'Headset"? - Seems like it would work best to record directly from the sound card or something... My headset does not have a mic - weird thing about Dell is - you have to open panel and tell it to play internal speakers or HS - all other laptops I've had would s...

These colours aren't really standardized. Could be the pink socket is for center and sub. And when you play back music, there's no signal on center and sub.
Have you tried the green socket?

"Not closed correctly"...
Do you think it is the recorder not closing files or did someone pull the USB key without powering down the recorder?
If it's the second case, a good disktool might be able to repair the USB key.
