Re: relative quality from recorded or converted audio
Recording with audacity doesn't cause any damage to the signal. Neither does downloading the video and extracting the audio. I prefer the second method cause it's easier and faster. What might induce some damage, is using Windows. And what ruins the compressed Youtube sound, is uploading any audio t...

Re: Strange Recording Noise
You'll have trouble with that interface on any computer that doesn't have perfect USB power. It seems Tascam decided to use the same inadequate power filtering that plagues some USB mics. if you still can, exchange it for another brand. Second problem is that USB audio class isn't very well supporte...

Re: Creating a 4-track (5.1) file able to be played on DVD.
All the domains that supported the Fraunhofer/Thomson MP3 surround encoder have gone dark. Only dodgy download sites still offer it. AFAICR it was an evaluation version only, but since even the license is gone, I can't check. I think MP3 surround is gone for good? MP3 surround files play on the Mac,...

Re: How is "clipping" determined?
Besides, if you ever want to turn that shiny 24 bit wav file into a more popular mp3 file, you'd better leave 3 dB headroom, or your mp3 will sound bad, even at 256 or 320 Kbps. And a 128 Kbps one will sound awful. Most of the bad rap of mp3 stems from bad CD's (over-compressed and even clipping). M...

Re: Audacity locking up issue
You're on Yosemite. Jseppi is on El Capital Please, adjust your software so that it writes "El Capitan". ;) I have to correct that too many times. That's hard. I mean, there's no software involved. Every time I think "Apple", my brain turns that into "El Capital". :D I...

Maybe rephrasing "OK" to "Save" might just do the trick?

Re: Audacity locking up issue
You're on Yosemite. Jseppi is on El Capital. Probably not the same problem. You wouldn't happen to be using a Firewire audio interface, wouldn't you? If your problem started after sec update 2015-005, it might be wise to try and build a new system on an external disk if you can. That's the easiest w...

Re: Audacity locking up issue
There are some other users seeing problems with audio. Reaper, to name one other audio tool. They're all on El Capitan, with recent Macs. It IS possible one of the security updates is involved, since internal Core audio routing has been changed to avoid malicious audio files or apps running code out...

What leads you to that thought? Security update 2015-005 is for Yosemite. Could it be you mean Security update 2015-008 or 7?168Jones wrote:crashes continue since last security update
Have you noticed crashes in other apps? Graphic interface slowdown/hiccups?
Are you on a recent Mac (Retina? Quad core?)
