I've never run two instances of the same Audacity version, but I do sometimes run two portable installs of 2.1.1 and another version. Have a look at the manual:

Re: Improve record quality
I don't know what online tool you use to do TTS, but there are several TTS programs available that have a built-in recorder. Have a look here:

"Text to Wav Converter", fi seems very popular, free and very capable.

Re: Waveform explained? (problem recording)
Sennheiser has the MKH 410-1 mic for just that kind of problem. Suitable for jet engines, explosions and other very, very loud stuff

From the comments on Amazon: That Mic is not good for anything. I sent it back. From the description of the mic on Amazon: Conveniently set with the help of stand and clip, desktop mic stand. Plug and play, start recording--no extra gear needed! Effective recording distance is 10ft in a quiet room; ...

Re: ALAC info missing / confusing!
iTunes Mac does import a .caf without errors, but it doesn't show up in the list and consequently, you can't play it. Dunno what's happening. The Finder can play the .caf with the "preview" function. Audacity 2.1.1 imports the .caf and plays it. Other audio tools play the file without any ...

The ALAC support probably isn't that useful given iTunes (at least on Windows) cannot play the saved CAF files. However the ALAC support does include 16-, 20-, 24- or 32-bit files. Apple has finally decided to fix at least nine of the very old security problems in Quicktime for Windows: APPLE-SA-20...

Re: Need a little help with setting up a Chain
It is recommended you get your existing system working correctly and predictably before you start comparing equipment. Yes! Learn first, spend later. I don't know that Shure 55 intimately, but a dynamic mic like that needs a top notch preamp to get the best out of it. The iRig, while a fairly decen...

Re: Attaching Wav files to emails
ZIP isn't "lossy" compression". I never wrote that, Steve. In fact, it's why I compared to FLAC and not mp3... The main benefit of FLAC rather than ZIP for audio is that most good audio players are able to decode FLAC files on the fly, whereas ZIP files usually need to be extracted f...

Re: Attaching Wav files to emails
ZIP isn't a compressor (that I know of). It just takes the air out of file and folder structure and puts it back at the end. And what do you think compression is? Zip and its derivatives are compression schemes for general computing. The ones like FLAC are optimized for audio, that's about the only...
