Re: low budget mic and speakers for conference calls
The Polycom range is very popular in business: http://www.polycom.com/voice-conferencing-solutions/conference-phones.html#phone-finder They used to have an expert hotline. It can be worth your while to call them to ask about features. You also need a quiet room and this setup isn't usually what coul...

Another good one is the Focusrite 2i2, just a wee bit more (20 $), but also more recent design:

Re: Cant record channels 2 and 3 in mixer only channel 1
Just a few musings... There is something odd in the way Audacity selects channels. I can't put my finger on it, but I have a feeling it has to do with numbering. Most people number 1, 2, 3... Most programmers number 0, 1, 2... In interface land, the better ones have stereo channels numbered 1...

Re: security for people using WINDOWS XP.
All of this above is purely anecdotal, of course. The fact is that today's malware isn't your friendly script kiddy prank anymore. While malware in the past didn't really hide it's actions, today's malware is highly covert, often only activates after a while and is really, really good in avoiding ma...

Re: Recording from USB turntable
Maybe this Sony?

Does direct to DSD recording...
Probably about the price of a Rolls-Royce, but with better styling.

Re: Need a little help with setting up a Chain
I'm guessing that cyrano means "small diaphragm condenser microphone" and "large diaphragm condenser microphone". Yes, indeed. Note that cyrano is only stating his personal preference and that the comment "Less white noise, higher output and less room problems, imho" i...

Re: exporting 8bit audio that doesnt have "noise" added
I realise that 8-bit audio can still sound almost identical to 16-bit audio since theres over 65,000 different volume levels of audio each bit can be at between -inf db and 0db Actually, 8 bit only has 256 levels... :P Astounding it can still sound OK on some audio, isn't it? The biggest disadvanta...

Re: Audacity crashing mid-recording
El Capitan is a problem... There have been some security fixes to Core audio and there definitely is a bug in it somewhere. It doesn't happen for everyone, so it is a complex bugger to find. What interface are you using? Or are you using the built-in line-in or mic? There are a number of fixes, star...

Re: Crackling noises in raw PCM files
I have some raw audio files which I load as Unsigned 8-bit PCM, Little Endian, Mono, at 29000 Hz. Why 29 KHz? The sample you posted, is 16 bit signed, according to MediaInfo. I'm just trying to understand what you're trying to accomplish. Some, even most audio interfaces don't playback 29 KHz at al...

Re: Administrator approval
But first we would have to be clear what we want I think that the first and most important thing that we need is a more sensible default save/export directory. Personally I would class it as a "bug" that the default is a non-writable location. I don't think that it should be too dificult ...
