Re: Help.......Recording Gongs
I do Gong meditation with 3 Gongs and am trying to record successfully. I have a Neumann mic and a Tascam DR-40 Recording device. The soft sounds are great but when the loud sounds come.....Ahhhh! I am recording at 24bit Wav and have reduced the recording to -48db and the tone -36db. The mic is pla...

Re: What's the relationship between Hardware Gain control
Don't forget the line in on the Mac is also an optical digital in. The biggest advantage over the analog line-in is that it is completely electrically isolated because it's optical. Unfortunately, preamps with optical out tend to be expensive and rare. Examples: https://proaudio.com/catalog/art-dmpa...

Re: getting individual control of left and right channels d
Could be a cable problem. You're going from unbalanced out on the tape player to balanced in on the Focusrite. Balanced uses TRS jacks (tip, ring, sleeve, 3 connections). These are mono, but equal to stereo jacks like used on headphones. Unbalanced uses TR jacks (tip, ring, 2 connections) If you hav...

Re: What's the relationship between Hardware Gain control
That's easy. Only USB is simple to work with and will give you the best result. Using the built-in, zero-latency monitoring of the Focusrite won't work, as this is a mono signal. And using the FR's outputs to go back into the Mac mini's line-in will work, with a lot of latency and will give a slight...

Re: What's the relationship between Hardware Gain control
So I looked into the iRig and the noise floor the last few days. ... However, it's not real bad, and as I get the room quieter things get better. Now I have a LARGE vu meter on the side, running vertically, I have the iRig on, the Gain turned now ... hmmm, about one full wheel rotation, and the mic...

Re: after noise reduction
I have to agree with Koz. There are a couple of high-end VST's that can do a better job in experienced hands, but they are upwards of a 1.000$...

There's always a possibility. I don't see how, but maybe someone else can come up with one?

Re: Recording on external drives
one day I had recorded 2 hours of stereo audio but didn't export it, and left Audacity on the desktop. It might have been minimized for a while. Then around 9 pm, decided to do a disk cleanup with CCleaner. Sometime later, decided to save (Export) the audio, but there WAS no audio to save!! A...

Re: Serious drift problem during podcast recording
The audio interface he's using, has a bad clock. The only sensible solution is to change the interface, imho. In rare cases, with onboard audio on overclocked PC's with real cheap onboard audio, the fix is not to overclock. This kind of hardware has no built-in clock generator and gets it's clock fr...
