Re: Multi-channel recording using TASCAM US-20x20
I was curious, so I tried to find a tool to do multi-channel recording on Windows. Most devs don't even mention higher sample rates. Have a look at: PlayRec http://www.playrec.co.uk/ Fairly basic, all platforms, no limits in number of channels or sample rate. Trustworthy. Does require MatLab or Octa...

Re: Multi-channel recording using TASCAM US-20x20
And now you understand why professionals don't use Windows for audio... I'm not sure if that's true anymore. Certainly, more home & semi-pro studios are running Windows applications and I believe Pro Tools runs on either platform. Let's not get into turf wars... Having several different audio syste...

Re: Multi-channel recording using TASCAM US-20x20
- Wasapi is limited to 96/24. - MME is limited to 2 channels, 44.1 or 48 kHz. - DirectSound is output only. It can record too, in theory, but I've never seen a working setup and I don't know any hardware supporting it. - Audacity doesn't do ASIO. That leaves WDM. Or rather GSIF (Tascam only). See: h...

Re: Exporting to MP3
The line input on the Focusrite Solo runs through the mic preamp. With a very high output capable preamp like the GAP in front, you risk distortion.

Re: is lost file retrieval possible from mirror/dump
Take the laptop to a data recovery service? drivesavers.com or one of the many, many other services. Also, you should not "work" in mp3. You have to decompress each and every time you work on it and recompress afterwards. Every time, you loose some minute part of the music. Do it often enough and no...

Re: Recording Separate Tracks
Apple stopped doing that years ago. So I suppose you still have some old songs around. Simpler and more effective work around: Make playlist in itunes. Burn playlist to CD. Delete DRM files in itunes. Import CD songs. If you don't want to waste lots of CD's look into making a "virtual CD" on your ha...

Re: Recording Separate Tracks
if I record a playlist from iTunes, what setting do I use so that I can export the songs each as a separate MP3 file? Right now, all the songs come out as one MP3 -- and the Export Multiple is not an active option. Why would you record a playlist from itunes and then export as separate songs? You a...

Re: recording with audacity using battery
Use an external battery?
Some laptops can run on 12V. If not, use a 12V + 6V lead/acid battery in series. That should be close enough for 19 V powered laptops.

Re: Exporting to MP3
If you want the best, go for an RME babyface (Pro). No need for a separate amp. These are expensive, but you could look for a 2nd hand one. - Always stable drivers, even after ten years. - 60 dB preamp gain, 80 dB overall - NO white noise - NO coloring the sound Another good choice, could be the Aud...

Re: Exporting to MP3
A Cloudlifter is also a solution. It adds 25 dB gain.
It's almost as expensive as the preamp you choose and has no settings. I'd go for the real preamp...
But I like to twist knobs...
