Re: White Noise is All-Consuming
If you have a good recording, no noise reduction or other treatment is necessary. But that depends on your surroundings... You can also gain a bit of quality by training yourself to keep distance to the mic constant, but I think you're doing fine in that area. Is you latest clip (help-levels-focusri...

Re: White Noise is All-Consuming
That sounds fine to me. I listened on speakers first and then switched to headphones because I couldn't hear any noise on the speakers. There is a tiny bit of noise when I listen in headphones. Nothing to worry about though. And I'm allergic to white noise :D Your mic is a high output condenser mic....

Re: White Noise is All-Consuming
I'm sorry, I'm completely ignorant when it comes to Windows 10.
It seems as if Windows is trying to manage your recording level somehow. Have you had a look at the settings in Windows?

Re: Hardware compatabiliy question
If it works with OSX, it works with Audacity.frustration22 wrote:I considering a Sternberg UR22mkII. Can't find anywhere in the literature if it will work with Audacity. In the reviews users claim to be using
it with GarageBand, so it seems like it would play nice with Audacity.

Re: White Noise is All-Consuming
cyrano, this is the preamp I have. Thx. I don't know if this one needs newer drivers. And since the change in XLR cable already made a solid difference, I think that's where we should point our attention. Using 20-25% gain also sounds more in sync with what I'd expect from a high output mic. And th...

Focusrite calls this their 'New Generation 2-in / 2-out Scarlett Solo. Input 1 is for mic only, and Input 2 for any instrument(s). Plugging a 2-channel drum machine (adapted to one 1/4" phone plug) into Input 2 sounds great using headphones and the Focusrite monitor, but records only to the right s...

Re: White Noise is All-Consuming
I don't hear any excessive noise on your samples. There is some noise, but with gain setting on the M-audio at 85% I would expect that to be present. It's a bit of white noise from the preamp and some ambient noise from your recording room. Your mic has an output of 28 mV/Pa. That is very high. I'd ...

Re: No IN(UA-1EX) on Device Toolbar
I don't know if this is of any use at all, but here goes: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Getting-your-devices-to-work-with-Windows-10-m3267234.aspx Someone on the Cakewalk fora figured out how to install and mod the Windows 8 driver for a lot of Roland devices under Windows 10. There's even a couple of y...
