Re: Where is the source-code?
Your server seems to be a little bit faster now. Still very slow, but it isn't quite as slow as it was earlier. :) I don't think it's Audacity's server. I had a slowdown on my connection less than an hour ago. Even lost a post I was writing. Checked the connection and there was a routing problem. N...

Re: Effects are all grayed out--why?
Top Tip: scroll up on the webpage from the link above (or click this link http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/#Guide_to_the_Audacity_Project_Window) and you will see an image of an Audacity project - you can click on places in this image to drill down and explore aspects of Audacity functionality. I'v...

Re: problems recording
Why would you do that?SteveInHastings wrote:i am recording clips of music that i am already playing on the pc
Is there some effect in the player that you would like to record? Or is it to bypass DRM?no mic used, nothing plugged into line-in, audacity picks it up via the stereo mix method i think

Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better
Yes, I could, but what would be the point? It would illustrate that the so called "logarithmic" view does not accurately represent the log sample values. The other thing that cannot be represented with a logarithmic vertical scale is silence. http://www.rapidtables.com/math/algebra/logarithm/Logari...

Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better
cyrano, you clearly prefer the Waveform (dB) view to the linear Waveform view. You know that you can set that as the default view? "Edit menu > Preferences > Tracks > Desfault view mode" That's about the first thing I do with a new install of Audicity. Not only for myself, but for every other user ...

Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better
Every other editor shows a file that's normalized to -1 dB as filling the track windows almost completely. These don't look like log scale to me: You're right. It's a bit hard to tell as they all show different files and some don't have a visible scale. But I've done some digging of my own and the ...

Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better
There isn't any sound engineer on the planet that thinks in linear percentages. I agree. That's why I would like an option for a dB scale on the linear waveform view. Most of our users are not sound engineers and come to Audacity with little idea of what "dB" means. That's why we need to educate th...

Re: Sensible defaults could make Audacity a lot better
Yet, Audacity shows 32 bit in the left pane of the main window. That is extremely confusing. I agree, I think that should be hidden from users, because: (a) it is (as you say) confusing. (b) may not actually be true. If that is indeed the case, does this feature request boil down to removing the te...

Re: Automatically import raw data files?
What you're asking is how OSX can detect raw data and send the file to Audacity when you double click it. This can be done with RCDefaultApp, see: http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/ It's a prefs panel that will load into System Preferences and allows you to set an app for every creator c...
