Doing precise selections
Have been reading the HELP file and finding ways to `type in´ exact selection spans, for example selecting 0.5 sec to the LEFT of audio start. That is to CUT any audio before the 1/2 sec of dead air lead-in. Likewise I'd like to select 1.25 sec after the END of an audio, and CUT the rest. IWO, end r...

Re: Selections, Time Shfit Tool, and Label Tracks
Sometimes it's necessary to INSERT a small 'space' or silences into the audio, but I need to have ALL the Labels to the right of the insertion move accordingly, but having trouble figuring what to select for the source segment, and how to paste into the audio so the LABELS will shift downstream. To...

Re: 2.1.2 thrashing hard drive
The default location of the temp file has changed. This was done because we received an increasing number of reports about security products deleting the temp files while Audacity is running and destroying the project data. To change the temp directory , go to "Edit > Preferences > Directories". If...

2.1.2 thrashing hard drive
Hi, updated to 2.1.2 last night and loaded a 25 min audio. Then went about the usual editing, and the HD started thrashing aggressively. It was noisy too.. all the HD chatter. Might add it seemed to take LONGER for simple edits. Has there been any change in the way Audacity handles the Temp file? I ...

Re: How to amplify a quiet section without sudden jumps?
I simply want to amplify a very quiet section of my sound file, but the amplify tool has no 'fade in' so you get a sudden jump in volume. I'm doing that quite often.. amplifying sections or selections. Many sound tracks are VERY poorly recorded or inserted in videos. Some audios or radio shows are ...

Re: Recording on external drives
Tip 2: Moving or copying ordinary audio files (such as WAV files) is easier and safer than moving / copying projects, because a WAV file is just one file, not thousands of little bits. WAV files are straight A->D, piling up PCM data into a HUGE file, and usually stereo (twice the data). Maybe consi...

Re: ADJUST VOLUME ON CERTAIN PORTIONS OF A VOICE RECORDING
That's what I've been doing with some talk-show audios. Callers can be 7 dB too low in some cases, so I select those segments, hit Z for Zero crossing, hit Alt+A and type in a dB value. Just to note that ALT + A is probably a shortcut for Amplify that Edwinn added.. Yes, thanks for clarifying. The ...

Re: Audio Track display - shades of blue
So, Gale, when we update the Manual later should we duplicate the information from Waveform onto the Tracks page - or just add a link? I think you guys did a great job on the manual. It's very technical yet concise. The trouble I have is trying to figure what Key Word to search for.. that is, what ...

Re: ADJUST VOLUME ON CERTAIN PORTIONS OF A VOICE RECORDING
YES, AND YOU CAN START BY NOT SHOUTING IN THE FORUM!!! LOL While the show is on the Audacity timeline, drag-select your voice segments one at a time and reduce their volume using tools such as.. Amplify. Amplify will allow you to assign a reduction value. Change the volume by -4dB, for example, to ...
