Removing a specific signature from audio
This is a question on how to remove a specific audio signature from recorded audio. What I have is a speaker that likes to hit his wedding ring on the podium so there is a very audible clack sound. It is about 15 ms long. What I would like to do is to copy one of the "clacks" and then have an effect...

Lost data in 2.1.2 Alpha Oct. 26 build.
Audacity 2.1.2 Alpha (I built it myself from source Oct. 26) has been running quite well on El Capitan 10.11.1. Yesterday in editing a recording of a sermon I ran across one spot where it appears as if the data was just not recorded. When listening to it, it sounds like 1/2 a syllable is missing. I ...

Re: Zoom Normal (Cmd+2) cursor position
do we agree that the "Zoom Normal" command should zoom to the default "zoom level" not scroll back to the start. Yes and if the cursor/selection is not centered on the display, but visible, then center it since Zoom In/Out do that anyway. Another option, not as consistent with Zoom In/Out, would be...

Re: Zoom Normal (Cmd+2) cursor position
I find it difficult to see exactly what is happening in that example because (a) I am unable to align 29.5 seconds exactly with the centre of the screen, and (b) there are very few zoom levels before the cursor comes into view. From testing with much longer tracks, it looks to me like the "problem"...

Re: Zoom Normal (Cmd+2) cursor position
Do you think a zoom should, when there is no transport, force an off-screen edit cursor back into view? That would be quite a change in behaviour. I don't like that idea. I think we should keep the current view position centred, in that case. No, I wasn't thinking of bring an out of view cursor bac...

Re: Zoom Normal (Cmd+2) cursor position
Just an observation on this discussion and a suggestion. We all agree that we want consistency. Maybe I'm missing something here, but it seems to me that the first problem to solve is what rules need to be in place for Zoom In and Zoom Out. I am hearing, from the comments, that the details of the or...

Re: Zoom Normal (Cmd+2) cursor position
Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+3 look OK to me during playback, so I'd suggest that Ctrl+2 should work the same way. FWIW, I agree with Steve on this. I initially started this thread because of the inconsistency of the Zoom Normal (Cmd+2) as compared to Zoom In and Zoom Out. I do a lot of editing of spoken tracks...

Re: Zoom Normal (Cmd+2) cursor position
Gale Andrews wrote: I've noted these two requests, but Zoom Normal could not leave the cursor horizontally where it was for example if you were zoomed in at less than 8 or 10 seconds into the track, unless we were to scroll the track to show white space before zero. Even enabling the Tracks Prefere...

Re: Zoom Normal (Cmd+2) cursor position
I'd not really noticed this before as I rarely use those keyboard shortcuts (I prefer to use mouse wheel zooming, which I think is Command + Mouse wheel on a Mac, if you have a mouse wheel). The behaviour that you describe is the intended behaviour. Command + 2 "Reverts back to Audacity's default z...

Zoom Normal (Cmd+2) cursor position
I've hunted around and can't find what the expected cursor behavior is for the "Zoom Normal" (Cmd+2) function. Most of the time when I'm editing I'm working around the center to center right portion of the track display. When I use the Cmd+2 to get the zoom back to a good play zoom level sometimes, ...
