Re: Is it advisable to first uninstall LAME before installing new Audacity 2.3.2?
OK, thanks, so I take it that the new Audacity will not touch the existing LAME, which should better be uninstalled independently for a cleaner Audacity installation. Perhaps this could be made clear in the FAQ. EDIT: Now a related question: How do you uninstall LAME? It doesn't seem to be listed in...

Is it advisable to first uninstall LAME before installing new Audacity 2.3.2?
Unlike previous Audacity versions, the new 2.3.2 now includes the LAME MP3 encoder, which I expect to be its latest version, possibly newer than the one we originally installed. As regards installation of a new version of Audacity, the FAQ say that there is no need to first uninstall the existing ve...

Re: Can I avoid confirmation pop-up before closing a file?
having argued the case so many times before, I'm not sure I have the will to do so again ;) Well, if you adopt my suggestion (last para of my previous post) you may not need to do so again. ;) I can’t imagine anybody complaining about absence of pop-up when he himself had deactivated it against all...

Re: Offline use question
If steve's download link doesn't solve the problem, I'd suggest you also try the portable version that doesn't need installation.jimpaterson wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2019 3:15 pmI have installed / uninstalled it a half dozen times with the same results.

Re: Can I avoid confirmation pop-up before closing a file?
Thanks for the answer steve, even if it’s not the one I would have liked. At least now I know, and your quick response is appreciated. As for your suggestion when working in sequence, when I do, it’s usually several operations, undoing which won’t require fewer clicks. I could of course delete, but ...

Can I avoid confirmation pop-up before closing a file?
Every time I export a file (as MP3 or WAV) and then try to close it, I get a pop-up asking me “Save project before closing?” As I don’t save projects, over time this gets tiresome and time-wasting. In Preferences > Warnings: I have the “Saving projects” unticked , but I still get the pop-up. Is ther...

Lower MP3 Bitrates [SOLVED]
In my previous version of Audacity 2.1.0, I could export MP3s at bitrates down to 128, 96 or 64 kbps. But in the new version 2.1.2 with Lame 3.99.3 the minimum is 145 - 185 kbps, which produces too big files. Is there a way of exporting MP3s at low bitrates? My system: Windows 10 64-bit I’d also lik...

Re: MP3 Bit Rate stuck on 128
OK, all is fine, and settings are saved so I don't have to change them every time. Thanks again. As for XP, I am strengthening my protections for the time being and doing full regular backups, as my old computer won't work well with newer and heavier systems. As for Linux, they say that it's only fr...
