It is a residential area so I suspect there are no high voltage wires. I tried wiggling the mic connection but it made no difference to the hum. I unplugged the speaker wire at the sound card and that made no difference either. I unplugged the mic wire and the hum went away. I have some older headph...

It is an analog headset plugged into the soundcard.
The computer is not a laptop. It is a tower.
I am in the UK. I am not sure if that rules out a ground problem.

I am getting a noticeable hum when I record. I am using Audacity but imagine that the problem is to do with hardware.
