Re: problem playing sound

Is the reason I need to set this to 200 a known bug? Is it worth investigating?

Assuming I keep this setting, is it possible to combine two mp3s using audacity into a single file which has the sound of both combined?

Re: problem playing sound

I am not doing overdubbing or streaming. So this looks like a good solution.
Thank you for the assistance

Re: problem playing sound

okay I changed "Audio to buffer" to 200 and it now plays correctly.

Is that a reasonable approach?

problem playing sound

I am using Audacity 2.0.5, installed by the Ubuntu package.
I open any mp3 file and then play it using output device HDA Intel: VT2020 Analog (hw: 0,0).
The sound seems to be at the right speed but is a bit distorted.

However, if I play the mp3 with mplayer, it sounds right

Re: Unwanted noise on recording

My card is HDA Intel (chip VIA VT2020)

There is some information here but it does not mention noise reduction
http://www.via.com.tw/en/support/tech_faq.jsp

The normal command I use to access the card is alsamixer. When I run this command, I do not see any noise reduction option to enable

Re: Unwanted noise on recording

I have been using the "noise removal" option in Audacity, selecting a few seconds of sound where I do not speak, to guide the removal process. This seems to work very well as the noise is almost completely gone. It would be nice if there was an application I could run to sit between me and the SIP c...

Re: Unwanted noise on recording

I increased the value of Capture as much as possible but it did not make any significant difference to the hum

Re: Unwanted noise on recording

I modified a 4-way block (4 3-pin sockets leading to one plug) by disconnecting the earth (ground) wire in the plug. I could then either boot the computer powered by a socket of the block, or a normal socket. Comparing recordings made in both configurations there seemed to be no significant differen...

Re: Unwanted noise on recording

I have done two tests. The first test was a recording with just the extension cable connected to the mic socket. Analysis showed a peak at 50Hz but only -43dB. The second test was a recording with the old headphones connected to the mic socket. Analysis showed a peak at 50Hz at -21dB contrasting wit...
