Re: low volume and hum using mic

I moved the record level up and down as I recorded, and the playback responded accordingly. Both he voice and hum rise and fall. "Every time I bring this up you move sideways instead of directly addressing it." Sometimes I don't understand what you mean. Would you expect a preamp to correct the hum?...

Re: low volume and hum using mic

"Did you get the cable checked at the same store that sold it to you? Did they say anything about special driver software?" No, that is a long way off. They said nothing about special drivers or software, just that this was all I needed. "Did they have the same Windows you have?" The computer shop h...

Re: low volume and hum using mic

The speakers are Logitech S-120 P/N: 880-000065 M/N:S - 00026 120V ~ 60Hz 100 mA How would I make it worse? Because I got such low volume, I already set highest volume in Control Panel-Sound. Is this what you mean? I'm still wondering about the driver. I plugged in the cable before attaching the mic...

Re: low volume and hum using mic

I still don't know whether there is some error in my settings. The mic is the only thing I've ever had a problem with using USB. Speakers seem fine, no hum except with the mic.

How can I check the mic driver?

Re: low volume and hum using mic

I didn't get reading on Windows recorder, or the mic option listed in Audacity, until I set it as default. Same problems, low volume voice, and hum. Under sound, still says. "This device is working properly." Both Audacity and Windows recorder work fine for recording internet streams.

Re: low volume and hum using mic

I plugged the mic into a back USB. I recorded with the Windows sound recorder, saved the file, and the playback was 0 audio. I tried a front USB again, same. I went to Audacity, but now the mic is not listed as an input option. I went to sound in control panel to be sure the mic was listed, it is an...

Re: low volume and hum using mic

I can't find Windows sound recorder. I used the search. I don't find "Entertainment" listed under accessories.

This is Windows 7 Professional.

Re: low volume and hum using mic

I can't judge what it is or isn't, so I'll do whatever I need to do to eliminate the possibilities. I'm afraid I don't know how to check each thing, so I need to ask: Where do I find the microphone icon to look at the box to the right of? How do I check configuration? How do I check the drivers? How...

Re: low volume and hum using mic

I had the mic itself (without USB cable) checked at a music store on a speaker system, it sounded fine. I took it to a computer shop and it worked on their computer with the USB cable. They didn't have Audacity, but the computer's audio meter showed no irregularity. The guy suggested there may be so...

Re: low volume and hum using mic

Thanks. I'll check out the mic and cable and get back to you. I will say I've had no problems with my USB ports for other things. I may not have the settings right, I'm known for that.
