Audio devices missing

My computer has two audio devices -- an HCMI ting and a stereo analog device. [Have you tried adjusting "Audio to buffer" in Audacity 's Recording Preferences? No; and what has recording got to do with it? I never use audaciy to record. Audacitry is invisible

Running on Suse10.3, audacity loaded from Packman

When started the disk runs, but then stops and there is no window. Just sits there until I ^C
1.3.3(beta) from SuSE is OK, but the the Packman version (1.3.7) shows this behaviour.

This has been the case for a while
