Re: Help! My mic is soooooo quiet!
I searched Amazon for "BM800 Microphone" and came up with a bunch of hits which all seemed to be the same product with different branding and paint. The listings are pretty consistent in indicating that it is indeed a large diaphragm condenser although one mentions "Neodymium magnet for high signal-...

Re: Help with Distant Voices in Grandfather's Recording
The right channel of the clip you posted doesn't seem to be anything but hum & noise. Are you sure that the original tape is that way? Missing right channel could be a bad cable, or a mono cable used where a stereo one should have been used. If there is a second track on the tape it is worth pursuin...

It's not your switch Koz... I get "episode unavailable as well".

Re: Can you give me some direction on this raw audio file?
Well certainly sounds like you've covered the reflections issue. What I'm hearing may well just be your voice. The exercise mats are probably less than ideal as their solid smooth surface will still reflect to some extent (but nowhere near as badly as a bare plaster wall) -- you might try a cheap th...

Re: Can you give me some direction on this raw audio file?
In terms of noise level I think you are in great shape. That is a very quiet recording. There is a bit of a hollow timbre to your voice however which might be due to reflections from the walls of your "studio". Is your closet just bare walls, or have you made any attempt to dampen the sound with foa...

Re: I'm confused and can't record sound
Koz is saying to connect the headphone output on the keyboard to the mic in on the laptop. Whether or on that will work acceptably depends on the nature of the laptop's Mic input. Most don't deal well with line-level (or headphone level) signals. But if the keyboard has a volume control for the head...

Re: Can you make all pitches uniform?
It might be possible with auto-tune (a commercial product). I'm sure the side-effects would get pretty horrible however.

Re: Editing 64k mono iPod Recordings (AAC/M4A) with a PC
Unfortunately the term "compression" has multiple meanings in this context, and I suspect that both might be apropos. There is bit-rate reduction -- the thing inherent in the AAC files that involves throwing away some of the information about the sound waves that your ears generally don't notice The...

Re: Editing 64k mono iPod Recordings (AAC/M4A) with a PC
64k bits/second is actually a pretty good data rate for a mono 44.1 kHz file... Surprisingly high given that the feature is labeled "Voice Memo" I would have expected no more than "telephone quality". That works out to 11:1 compression. I suspect that there will be more flaws in the recording due to...

Re: Editing 64k mono iPod Recordings (AAC/M4A) with a PC
You should be able to export a .wav file from the .aac from iTunes, then edit in Audacity as normal. Getting iTunes to offer the option of converting to .wav is not obvious (as I had to do it recently). What you have to do is under "preferences" -> "general" there is a button labeled "Import setting...
