Re: Waveform explained? (problem recording)
If you intend to use an external dynamic mic and you are able to solder (or know someone that can), then making an in-line attenuator is pretty straightforward. In its simplest form it just requires 2 resistors (3 for balanced input). There's an article about how to design and build one here: http:...

Re: easy peak recording method for vinyls
I used to do that sort of thing, but then I realized that the digital recording path has at least a 30 db SN advantage over the vinyl and you don't need to be that precise. So I have simply memorized the settings that give about 10 db of headroom for most records, set and go. Then in post-processing...

Re: A puzzle that I would be most grateful for any help with
Well the sample rate is 96000 Hz, and a plot spectrum shows a strong peak at 20kHz with symmetric sidebands so it's a fair guess that there is something modulating a 20 kHz carrier there. I'll leave the task of writing a suitable demodulator in nyquist to you.

Re: Blue Yeti Weird Sound
Search the forum for "frying mosquitoes". It is a terribly common problem. The source of the noise is the USB data transmission. The reason it should suddenly be a problem will probably take some effort to track down. I would start by asking have you changed anything to do with the USB cabling, diff...

Re: ACX check
If you right-click (or ctrl-click) the "View" link on the wiki page and the select "save link as" you get a file save pop-up which will allow you to save the un-zipped .ny file, which you can then copy directly in to the plugins folder without worrying about zip.

Also the cable will probably have an overall braided shield. It's probably not essential that get re-connected after you've opened up the cable but it might be a good idea. Do NOT connect the braid to the black wire.

Re: Another Blue Yeti Recording - Noise
One other thing, the black wire must remain connected to the PC side of the cable, only cut the red wire.
You also want to do this as close as practical to the Yeti end of the cable (I'd suggest 8-10"). Much of the induced noise is due to the common path for data and power ground.

Re: Another Blue Yeti Recording - Noise
It could be a timing thing, part of the USB protocol uses the rise of the 5 volts to reset the peripheral and trigger it to initialize communications. Try unplugging and re-connecting the USB cable at the Yeti, and see if that will get the computer to recognize it. It's also possible you managed to ...

Re: Normalizing volume across files
The Audacity meters are measuring peak levels. Setting levels for any recording is trade-off between setting the level low enough that you will never "clip" the signal, and setting it high enough that the noise of the recording process won't make the signal worse. For voice having the meters bouncin...
