Re: iMic volume/noise issues
I've never noticed those stripes on the jacks before. But both my adaptors (1/4" to 1/8" and the other way round) are stereo. The Radioshack one is just like the one I own, except that it's mono of course. Can we run through this again - do you have a lead with an XLR plug (3 pins) on one end and an...

Re: iMic volume/noise issues
We're still missing one piece. The iMic that I had and hated had 1/8" (3.5mm) connections on it, not 1/4" (6.3mm) phone sockets. We know what the microphone is. Show us the web site of your iMic. I seriously doubt that there's some sort of special website for "my" iMic, or that there's different ki...

Re: iMic volume/noise issues
Does that mean you're using Mac/Intel/Leopard? Uh, yeah. You know, I'd really rather not buy a new microphone or preamp. I picked out the mic specifically for capturing my voice (guitar too), so I'd like to know what I need to get what I have working. I'm sure the money-back-guarantee period is ove...

Re: iMic volume/noise issues
The microphone cable doesn't match on both ends, does it? It's probably female XLR3 on one end (three holes inside) and Something Else on the other. Does it look like this... http://www.ace4parts.com/Products/Unbalanced-Mic-Cable---6-ft__71-1590.aspx If that's not it, find a picture on line that sh...

Re: iMic volume/noise issues
Well, I finally got enough money to buy it and I just tested it out a few days ago. My mic was plugged into its large jack and then the preamp plugged into the iMic (because, y'know, my computer still has no mic jack). But nothing ever got recorded. I tried every cable/plug arrangement I could think...

Re: iMic volume/noise issues
This is what was recommended on Electro-Harmonix's website. Wish I had caught it before- it would have saved me a lot of hassle. http://www.amazon.com/Electro-Harmonix-12AY7-Tube-Microphone-Preamp/dp/B0018SL8UY/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1235884205&sr=8-2 I'll report on its pe...

Re: iMic volume/noise issues
Just got the LightSnake. I am thoroughly convinced that the microphone is at fault here, because I'm having almost the exact same problem- that is, my recordings are barely audible.
How do I boost the volume of my mic without getting a ton of hiss?

Re: iMic volume/noise issues
Just to be clear, what is it that makes my mic so quiet when I use the iMic? Is the signal too weak? Why doesn't the "mic" setting on it do what it's supposed to?

Re: iMic volume/noise issues
LOL. 6.3mm is a quarter-inch phone plug. We're not used to that new fangled Metric stuff here in Los Angeles. Excuse me, but I live in LA too- I only said "6.3 mm" because that's what I've seen it referred to as most often. These have been highly recommended by other Audacity users, and should be s...
