Re: Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron - lots of bugs
I see, thanks, but no luck upgrading. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 right now, and can't upgrade Audacity to 1.3.7 because of a required newer version libasound-2 dependency, which will conflict with my current ALSA installation.

Re: Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron - lots of bugs
I too have noted some bugs in 1.3.5. If I add a fade, cut, or any sort of edit, then undo my work, the program immediately crashes. I can instigate this problem by doing two edits, then attempting to undo. Also, there is a terrible visual lag when selecting audio. If I click and drag the mouse curso...

Re: Sample rate & file size issues
I guess my best bet is to record, mix later to whatever codec medium (I'll probably do a midrange VBR mp3), then import the file later for editing. I can even import the label file, too! Cool feature I didn't know about. Only issue is that, the more compressed I make the file, the longer Audacity ta...

Re: Audacity & JACK: quest for the ultimate configuration
I guess it could be, but I did manage a successfully clean recording last night, 1.5+ hours. I set things a little different: 512 frames/period, 32 periods/buffer. Overall 372ms latency.

Audacity & JACK: quest for the ultimate configuration
Since upgrading to 1.3.5, I've had to start using JACK to avoid terrible, terrible skipping while recording. There is a large visual lag upon zooming in, or following the cursor, which is a nuisance ... anyone know the cause of this? More troubling, obviously, is the record quality, so I've set out ...

Re: Audacity and JACK : I need some terms defined.
steve, thanks much for that reply. I remember trying realtime and low latency kernels before, but upon retrying a realtime kernel, I'm not able to boot into it ... but I'm not going to b!tch about that on this forum. As far as helping you out (it's only fair after your informative post), I had to tw...

Re: Sample rate & file size issues
Is there a way to have Audacity record in a different format, or do I have to convert all existing recordings to FLAC, etc. after they're recorded in wav format?

Audacity and JACK : I need some terms defined.
I have, on Ubuntu 8.10, Audacity recording through JACK. At 44100 khz, 16 bit, I recorded for 1 1/2 hours last night via a USB mixer sending a stereo mix, and amazingly only had two xruns (I believe these are skips in the audio). I realize, however, that while I know a bit about my digital recording...

Sample rate & file size issues
First, I'd just like to say how comfortable with Audacity I am at this point. I've been a regular user of it since December 2007, to record live music and to make multitracked, studio-polished products from. I write asking two things. I am only able to record with the sample rate set at 44100, and t...
