I see, thanks, but no luck upgrading. I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 right now, and can't upgrade Audacity to 1.3.7 because of a required newer version libasound-2 dependency, which will conflict with my current ALSA installation.

I too have noted some bugs in 1.3.5. If I add a fade, cut, or any sort of edit, then undo my work, the program immediately crashes. I guess it could be, but I did manage a successfully clean recording last night, 1.5+ hours. I set things a little different: 512 frames/period, 32 periods/buffer. Overall 372ms latency.

Since upgrading to 1.3.5, I've had to start using JACK to avoid terrible, terrible skipping while recording. Is there a way to have Audacity record in a different format, or do I have to convert all existing recordings to FLAC, etc. after they're recorded in wav format?
