Whatever the problem is (which suddenly developed in 2.1.0), the same problem does not occur in 2.0.6 --- I did the same Effects Re-scan there, it worked just fine.
Anyway, I have replaced 2.1.0 with 2.1.2 --- hopefully I'll like this version better, anyway.
Thanks, guys.

Re: Re-Scanning for Effects Plugins
Yes, thanks, Kozikowski. I was looking for the Re-scan feature under Preferences, which is what we always had in the past, before 2.1.2 In 2.1.2, I see we have to manually enable or disable each effect plugin separately --- seems like a step backward from the re-scan process, which we always used pr...

Re-Scanning for Effects Plugins
This has never happened before, but now suddenly my Audacity 2.1.0 crashes immediately when it tries to re-scan for effects plugins. I uninstalled and re-installed --- same thing happens. I installed 2.1.2, and it doesn't even give the option to re-scan for effects plugins; so apparently you can onl...

Re: link to download old Noise Removal utility
I'm using 2.1.0. I'll download 2.1.2. I use Noise Removal for one thing: to remove background noise. This is usually very light background noise generated while recording in my acoustically-imperfect and non-soundproofed home-studio. In addressing this particular background noise, the old Noise Remo...

Re: link to download old Noise Removal utility
I agree: fascinating. For years,Noise Removal accomplished my goal perfectly, every time, hundreds of times. But the Noise Reduction tool is worthless to me.

link to download old Noise Removal utility
Several months ago, Gale or Steve (I think) posted a link to download the old Noise Removal utility, for those of us who loved that feature and are unable to get excellent results from the Noise Reduction utility which replaced it. I have searched the forum and I can't find that link or any mention ...

Thanks, that works!
So, for future reference, (in Windows XP,at least) Audacity loses its recording-function whenever Studio One is open.
thanks again

Suddenly, cannot record in Audacity: "Error while opening so
Suddenly, I cannot record in Audacity: ("Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.") So I checked the input device settings and the project sample rate. Everything seems normal. I also looked online to see how other people have responded to...

GSnap now in Plugins, but Audacity ignores it
I placed the (32 bit) GSnap .dll file into Audacity's plugins folder; then re-started Audacity, multiple times, re-started my computer, re-downloaded GSnap and re-placed it into the plugins folder, re-started Audacity again --- and GSnap still does not appear in Audacity's effects list. Advice?
