Recording stops short
I have a new Kubuntu system and with it, Audacity 2.0.5. I have just tried to use it to digitise from a USB input. First time I tried, it stopped after about 50 min. Then I tried to set the length at the bottom of the window to 20 hours, and it seemed to go on to almost the full 60 min of the casset...

Re: Joining tracks
Thank you for the advice. I'll try first using the simple Linux cat command to concatenate the tracks. And I see that I had better update my older Audacity to V2. As to mp3, I am always given this advice. My old ears can't hear the difference between a wav or flac and mp3, and the latter take up muc...

Joining tracks
I had to break up what should be a single mp3 file into 4 separate files while digoitising. I believe Audacity can join them together into a single file that can be played. If I do this using the Linus cat command, there can be loud cracks at the joins, I am told, that can damage a loudspeaker. So, ...

Re: Time windows
Thanks, I'll try those tips. My problem was that if left to itself, it seems to set a time
such that digitising stops before I want it to.

Time windows
At the bottom of the Audacity window there are three panels with times. Over them there are three buttons, named Selection start, End, Length, Audio position. Of the two, End and Length, which should I select when recording (digitising)? I have experienced that digitising stopped after a time I didn...

Re: Input level
Thanks all. I will check for the device toolbar. The Linux version is Suse 12.2, and
the sound source is the headphone output of a cassette recorder. There is a small
red socket on the side of the laptop and that's where I plugged the cable in.

Input level
I am trying out using Audacity on my Thinkpad laptop running under Linux. I plugged a sound source into the correct socket and started Audacity, but it did not register any sound. I assume I have to tell it where to look for it - how do I do that? I tried the little menu on the input bars, but nothi...
