I have now tried the latest version with an audio file which I renamed to include both a couple of German Umlauts and a French acute accent (United Nations!). Both File/Import and File/Open worked perfectly.

I use English — British/UK, insofar as it is different from English US — but occasional audio files might have German or French names. I haven't tried such files with your latest version of Audacity yet. I'll report when I do.

Yesterday, I tried the latest nightly download of Audacity 2.0.5 for Mac. It has the same bug: crashes if one tries to import a sound file. Note that the name of the file I tried does not have an accent or Umlaut, and nor does any folder in the tree of folders in which it is situated.

I'm really sorry, but I can't remember exactly. It may be that the first time 2.0.4 opened but did not load any music and the second time it crashed; or I may be wrong about that.
