Aha, I see! So it might just be the fact that Audacity was in my case writing temporary files to var/tmp/audacity-temporary (or something like that)?
I will try to change it to /home/Audacity now.
By the way, my view looks a bit more like the first one.

I must say that this behaviour acts up at some points. After 10 minutes or so, most of the times, I can suddenly interact with other windows as well. Until it ceases to function again and the above described behaviour is back again. So it almost feels like waiting for a buffer to restore.
