Re: Female voice quality - equalisation advice appreciated

De-verb plugins are not going to produce something which will be acceptable to ACX,
They don't completely remove reverb & they add a lot of computery processing artefacts.

Re: Female voice quality - equalisation advice appreciated

Ah - it's just occurred to me: wouldn't a laptop have only a mono mic? I think the the rode "nt-usb" is mono: " capsule" (singular). The recordings she sent were in stereo and with both legs equally balanced. sometimes called "dual-mono". Audacity can produce dual-mono...

Re: Female voice quality - equalisation advice appreciated

The mic is a Rode NT-USB (which seems to get pretty favourable reviews for a budget model) but I don't know what distance she was working from it: possibly a lot more than would be ideal, in view of the sound. The sound is so off it would be worth checking to see if they are actually unintentionall...

Re: Female voice quality - equalisation advice appreciated

My question is: is this a serious fundamental fault which I should ask my friend to rectify at source ... I'd bet ACX are not going to accept that because of the loud reverberation in the room. There's no way to fix that in post production. The only cure is to re-record in an acoustically treated, ...

Re: Audacity microphone volume too high

Yes, wish my laptop had a line in, only mic and headphone jacks available Sometimes the mic-in can be toggled to become line-in via software control, (On my Dell laptops that is possible). Otherwise you'll need a hardware gadget to convert a USB socket into line-in, such as ... https://www.google.c...

Re: Normalize effect and Loudness normalizer effect: Difference?

loudness normalizers/equalizers take into account that the human ear is not equally sensitive to all frequencies

Problem 1. Alignment. ... select the track you want to modify ... https://manual.audacityteam.org/m/images/b/b6/select_button_in_tcp.png then any effects will only be applied to that track. BTW Using the time-shift tool is easier than padding with silence ... https://forum.audacityteam.org/download...

Re: Reducing "hollow" sound in recording

The problem sounds like reverb in the room. The only real way to prevent that is acoustic treatment of the room, (heavy blankets, thick foam, carpet), There are de-reverb plug-in$ to reduce reverb in post-production, but they generate computery artefacts ... https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic....

... turntable output, directly to laptop via stereo 3.5mm pin plug to mic input....
turntable output should go to line-in, not mic-in, (the latter is too sensitive).

... I still prefer to use Audacity ...
Can have both, (they're both free).
If the plug-in you want to use is only available in 64-bit,
can apply it to the track in OCENaudio, then export as WAV,
then import that WAV into Audacity for editing.
