Re: Can anyone name this sound/voice effect?
For smaller room size, reduce the "Early Reflection" a lot. OK I’ve reduced the early reflection on Gverb to minimum (-70db) , and applied Gverb with the settings shown below to the high frequency copy of the demon voice. GVerb settings applied to high frequency copy of demon.png Reverb was applied...

Re: Can anyone name this sound/voice effect?
In your “sample 2” the child’s voice and the demonic derivative are synchronised , definitely not “half a second behind it”. If you must have the demonic voice lagging behind, not more than 0.05 seconds would be my suggestion, otherwise the mixture will be incomprehensible. If you want to play the o...

Re: noise removable
1). the noise removal tool in Audacity 1.3 is much better than 1.2
2). If the noise is mains hum could try this dehummer plugin.
3). Applying Noise removal or de-hum almost always has some unwanted effects, ideally these are less obtrusive than the original noise/hum.

Re: Question about what I'm Recording...
The last 10 seconds of this 20 second track are totally silent
if you can hear static hiss or buzz when you play the silent bit then it's due to your hardware (not Audacity or other software).

Re: Program adding unwanted silence
Some effects add silence when applied to a track.
If you want to get rid of the extra silence just select and hit delete.

Re: Help, I'm trapped in a deep well!
I've thrown every effect I’ve got at it …
The “after” is a bit better, but not much more intelligible than the original.
[ BTW Chris's Dynamic Compressor plug-in cannot cope with a 2 hour show ].
