Re: Help for a newbie

Are you saying that a flac file retains the same sound quality as a wav file? Yes, and so does the wikipedia link I gave ... Lossless data compression is a class of data compression algorithms that allows the exact original data to be reconstructed from the compressed data. The term lossless is in ...

Re: Help for a newbie

I understand that all conversions are based on some algorithm that will likely degrade quality Again, please pardon my ignorance, but I am educatable ... if that's a word. FLAC is a loss-less compression format, there is no loss of data when the file size is compressed, (downside the FLAC is only h...

Re: low motorboat sound running under audo

Sorry, my mistake, I thought you had a mic plugged into the 3.5mm mic jack socket on your computer, I didn’t realise you were using a mic which plugged in the USB. Two things worth trying with your USB microphone .. 1. disable all the other recording devices in the windows recording devices , just i...

Re: low motorboat sound running under audo

So, you are suggesting a higher quality microphone? Or some other alternative? The motorboat sound is an artifact of the audio capture device: if you plugged the mic into the computer then that's the computer's internal sound card that's the problem. Plugging a different microphone into the same so...

Re: low motorboat sound running under audo

Your motorboat is a 15Hz signal and its harmonics, (multiples thereof, i.e. 30Hz, 45Hz , 60Hz, 75Hz … 9375Hz). lclayton's motorboat.png IMO this sound is an artifact generated by the recording device, ( I have an $ 25 pocket voice recorder which does something similar, example attached ) Because the...

1. remove or disguise the email address in your post, otherwise you could be sent spam emails ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_harvesting

2. attach 5-10 seconds of the motorboat sound to your next post, or provide a link to were we can download / hear it .

Re: Remove Limiting

There's a slightly more sophisticated version (as a plug-in) here: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=52520&p=127163#p127163 The point at which the expander kicks in isn't noticeable with the above (exponential) version of "Peak Processor" ... Steve's Peak Processo...

Re: Remove Limiting

Steve’s "reverse the effect " nyquist code here does what it says on the tin: a linear amplification sharply kicks in above a threshold … Before-after Steve's reverse Nyquist code.png Before-after Steve's reverse Nyquist code.wav Maybe exponential amplification above a threshold would give...
