I tried to use the limiter... to put it simply, I have no idea what Im doing. Using the limiter, compressor, normalize, leveller, etc etc. Compressors (and Steve's limiter ) reduce the dynamic range : they make the loud bits quieter and the quiet bits louder. anyone point me in the right direction?...

Under effect I found equalization, but it was grayed out. I tried waiting until I was actually recording a track, but found that it, as well as most of the other options in all menues were also grayed out. How do I activate them Audacity's equalizer can only be used after the tape has been captured...
