Re: 50 Year Old Analog Audio Noise Removal Issue.

…I first tried using the “Normalize” filter setting to "0dB" as Trebor suggested, but that increased the volume and wave form too much. Normalize to 0db is maximum loudness , if that’s too loud replace the “0” in normalize with a negative number like “-3” , “-6” is quieter still , etc. … ...

Re: Novice seeking info on file compression

If the sermons don't contain music, just speech, you can half the sample rate to 22025Hz, which will reduce your file size. Not for MP3, though - the sample rate does not affect the file size. Sorry I was thinking WAV , a constant bit-rate mp3 isn't going to be smaller by reducing the sample-rate :...

This will lose all frequencies above 11KHz, but they aren't necessary for comprehensible speech. Mono, rather than stereo, is sufficient for speech.

Re: Remove audio from track

I'm working with a remix of a song, and the remix contains clips of the original song playing along with the remix. I'm trying to remove those clips. Looking at the spectrogram view , rather than waveform view , may make alignment easier, the matching patterns are more obvious. http://manual.audaci...

I've already bought different microphones based on their diameters ... The more sensitive a microphone the better the signal-to-noise rat...

Re: 50 Year Old Analog Audio Noise Removal Issue.

Koz, Understood. I have updated my personal documentation with your notations regarding using the default settings, and the issues that could arise if the noise or hum was above 7kHz. As you said, "cut off everything above about 6 or 7KHz with the equalizer" That was me (Trebor) who said ...

Re: 50 Year Old Analog Audio Noise Removal Issue.

I cannot seem to see a listing for a second filter? And if not, what is the file name assigned by Audacity, so that I may locate it as well. I think Steve's is named "Hum Remover", you do have to unpack the zip file to obtain the text file with the name "de-hum.ny" , it's this &...

Not a problem for me, I just though I'd mention it as it could be a symptom of something wrong with the forum.
