Re: 50 Year Old Analog Audio Noise Removal Issue.
... I have a new challenge. I understand how to remove the hum at the start of the sample... The first 1.3 seconds at the start , when the woman talking, is not severely affected by mains hum : only the first 10 harmonics of mains hum are conspicuous. So this occasion , where there are less than 20...

Re: how to enhance a recording?
... there is a psychoacoustic effect where people listen to trashy recordings and "make up" their own sounds and words and swear they're real. A tell-tale sign that it's Rorschach audio , ( like the inkblots where people see meaning where there is none), is that only a word or two can be ...

Re: White Noise (static detecton)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XClduWGEdq0 I feel like this is what I'm looking for. The guy mentions static in it and even shows where it is. Is what this guy saying legitimate? That YouTube is just a poor tutorial about how to use Audacity's noise reduction feature . As we've mentioned for passiv...

Re: High pitched noise on USB mic recordings
Hi Again this is a short recording of silence for few seconds to show the whistle. Attachments Whistle.wav Whistle demo (742.09 KiB) If you can't prevent this whistle it can be notched-out using Steve's Code below in Nyquist Prompt . Whistle, before-after Steve's de-whine code.flac (setq mysound s)...

Re: Recording dialogue in the wilderness
... The last two stages are the stereo center alone and all that has been deleted (i.e. the side channels). sample2 excerpt , 4stages.mp3 That's a very clean centre-isolation : I can't hear any digital artifacts , is that rjh-stereo-tool.ny ? [ I use kn0ck0ut for that which usually adds some artifa...

Re: Recording dialogue in the wilderness
On sample 2 You can notch out the mains hum for a start ...
then applying a wide notch at 5800Hz cuts back the bird noise ...

Re: Recording dialogue in the wilderness
Why am I able to remove slight ambient hum (equipment hum) through noise cancellation, but not natural sounds? Noises which only occupy a very narrow constant frequency range can be attenuated with a notch filter : like hum, some insects , some frogs and vuvuzelas . Wind, fire and flowing-water occ...

Re: Recording dialogue in the wilderness
... So far I'm been looking for a program with a good live-action spectrum-meter so I can learn what freq. the different noises are at (e.g. insects versus birds versus plane overhead versus different human voices). WaveLab and Audacity both have decent meters it seems. I should add, I work at a sm...

Re: 50 Year Old Analog Audio Noise Removal Issue.
...I was trying to find something in the Audacity help section that describes the “Snap to” function, and how to use it. It would same me a lot of time, if I did not have to scroll back and forth from beginning to end of the track section I’m working on. You can add labels to help you find your way...
