Re: Improving overall quality of a live recording.

http://www.mediafire.com/listen/3h6damk5n7v6c67/Sound_Of_Music_01.mp3 Rather than directing us to a huge 56Mb download, a short excerpt would have done, e.g. ... Sound Of Music 01 [ excerpt].flac I'd be tempted to discard the much-poorer left-track, making it mono rather than stereo, ( see " s...

Re: Making a file "low-fi"

..., if text-to-speech programs that sounded halfway comprehensible didn't cost an arm and a leg, I'd probably just go with one of those. There are free online text-to-speech converters , some realistic, some a bit "Stephen Hawking" ... ''Nothing against,,,''.wav :) Microsoft Windows does...

Re: Find out what effects have been applied

I'm trying to figure out what effects have been applied to the second song below, with little success besides that it might be compression or purposeful clipping. How would I find out *exactly* what they are? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8VvkrYjWMY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PX7zPlQjAr8 Th...

Re: Making a file "low-fi"

... My USB mic is apparently just "too good" ... Nothing sounds like that old-phone-quality, no-treble voice that I hear in long, compressed podcasts ... If you can post a few seconds of what you sound like now on your "too good" mic , and what you used to sound like on the podc...

Re: Making a file "low-fi"

If you want "skype quality" you may need to resample at 16000Hz , maybe even lower.

Re: Making a file "low-fi"

I'm thinking, "If I could just make my voice sound that low-fi and dynamics-free, I'd be able to speak without being paranoid about every accidental spittle and volume peak..." I tried the "Telephone" VST plug-in, but all it does is crank up the mids and highs, and add a bunch o...

Re: Searching inside an audio file

Do you know if there is an existing software able to do that? Microsoft Windows comes with speech-recognition , but it doesn't transcribe recordings, but "third party" software does ... http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/using-speech-recognition-in-windows...

Re: Searching inside an audio file

I just noticed recently that YouTube will automatically generate captions for speech in video, for free , and you can download the transcript it has generated. It's surprisingly accurate, (in my case better than 95%), although I suppose its transcription accuracy will depend on ones accent :) https:...

Re: advice on improving quality of low-bit recordings

I have some old audiobooks that got digitized from cassette at 16 kbps and 11.025 kHz. Needless to say the quality isn't so good (lots of that glittery-sounding distortion especially). I'm hoping to get some advice on what features/processes in Audacity might be best for trying to gain some improve...

Re: Standard Noise Removal Settings for 30 Year Old Audio Ta

So, Trebor, you are saying to, first, use Steve's Hum-Remover plug-in, using the settings you used on my file, then, second, use the usual Audacity Noise Removal tool, then, finally, use Steve's Noise Gate plug-in, using the settings you used on my file? Is that correct? IMO Yes . Depending on the ...
