Re: Enhancing/mastering 1970's cassette recordings

... If anyone else has tips/tricks please let me know... First step : remove infrasound , ( doing that makes processing the waveform easier ). Add the limiter plugin to Audacity , using the limiter will automatically will attenuate any loud clicks which would otherwise limit the volume of the music...

Re: Podcast Bit spikes with the "S"'s

To remove spikes of any type use a limiter.

To reduce sibilant "S"'s you need a de-esser , like SpitFish [ Windows only ]
hiS diStant outpoStS , before-after de-ess.wav
also notched out the constant tone @ 953Hz

Re: Echo on playback of imported files.

I imported all the "takes" (files) into Audacity of the voiceover. When selecting a track to play ( putting the yellow band around the control panel), I assumed I would be listening to just that track. I did not realize that ALL the other tracks would be playing simultaneously. You can pl...

Re: De-esssssssing & B's and P's - best equaliser for this?

... sang at the time suffers from s's, b's and p's because that mic isn't suited for singing. Is the Audacity EQ effect detailed enough for this job? I notice that most of my ssss's are around 7,2000 when the eq only has 6,300 and 8000khz sliders. Kill two birds with one plugin: a multi-band compre...

Me no speak Mac, but if the file plays OK on a ipod-type player , but only has the echo when played on the Mac, unbeknownst to you the sound-card-device on your computer may be applying an echoey surround-sound type "enhancement" ... http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troub...

Re: Help needed cleaning screeches/peaks from voice recordin

Here is the sample file from the selected part. sample.wav Any ideas how to proceed? Audacity's native tools won't make much difference to this severe case of clipping distortion. You'll need $oftware with automated de-click and de-crackle , even then it's an extreme-case and parts may be unfixable...

Re: Remove loud fuzziness at upper range of audio recording

If "fuzzy sample" is a conversation , you can make the two voices equally-loud using the envelope tool ... Audacity's envelope tool appled to 'fuzzy sample'.png FuzzySample, after envelope tool.wav For a less accurate but quicker (automatic rather than manual) method of evening-out volume ...
