Re: effect of the muffled music
It can be progressively-muffled with this variation of Steve's code in the Nyquist Prompt ... (setq start-freq 22000) ; cannot be greater than 1/2 the sample rate (setq end-freq 200) (setq passes 6) ; more passes for a steeper filter cut-off (setq sweep-type 0) ; 1 for a linear sweep, 0 for exponent...

Re: Enhancing/mastering 1970's cassette recordings
So I'm looking for peak areas and I level them out right? It's how they sound rather than how they look , the too-loud (or too quiet) bits may not actually be conspicuous on the shape of the envelope. A compressor (or limiter) will try to make the waveform a constant amplitude, but to the ear this ...

Re: Enhancing/mastering 1970's cassette recordings
... Can you explain just a little how you did the envelope? I am looking at the manual on it but not sure exactly what i'm looking for to change. You have to click on the tool icon with the blue line http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/m/images/4/4d/tools_toolbar_basic7.png to go into envelope mode .....

Re: Enhancing/mastering 1970's cassette recordings
Here is a sample of what I did to the recording. I am still trying to get the trained ear, can you take a listen and tell me of anything that I missed that really sticks out? cashsample.mp3 It sounds like compression has made the solo-drum in the middle go too loud, that's fixable with Audacity's e...

Re: Splitting Stereo, Editing each side in Mono = PROBLEM!
That makes each side of the track only play on left and right sides though. Previously, each side of the track was set to mono in order to edit each. Any other potential solutions "custom mix" can be configured to allow you to retain both tracks as mono in WAV format ... select the option...

Re: Recommended Ratio Settings for the Compressor
... It seems if you go too high past 2:1 it starts to become too harsh. I would guess lower better but of course if you want to compress more you have to go higher (3:1, 4:1 etc., towards 10:1). The hardness of the compression is a factor , not just the compression-ratio. Try compressors other than...

Re: Enhancing/mastering 1970's cassette recordings
I'm still trying to understand all of this, with those below you mentioned, I download and import into Audacity to use, right? Yes you have to put a copy of Steve's "limiter.ny" plugin into Audacity's Plug-Ins folder , ( "Limiter" should then appear in the effect menu ). Then im...
