Re: '70's/'80's CD music remix examples using Audacity

Thanks for the links, Trebor. I'll have to spend some time sorting out what those inline "Digital Workstation" VST's do and how they would connect with my setup. The live VST hosts allow allow you use free VST plugins like equalizers or compressors in real-time , which isn't possible in A...

Re: '70's/'80's CD music remix examples using Audacity

... Just yesterday I heard a snippet of SuperTramp used on a cable TV commercial and sure enough it had a nice fuller sound and the vocals were reduced in pitch. TV commercials have dynamic-range-compression applied to make them loud, ( see loudness wars ). That can be done in Audacity , but not in...

Re: Possible to get rid of "crackling" sound?

I tried following your guide but I don't have the 'No-Infrasound' curve when I use the Equalization option and when I click the link I end up looking at a screenshot showing the curve. Can I download this curve somewhere or am I supposed to recreate the curve myself by looking at the screenshot? Th...

Re: Possible to get rid of "crackling" sound?

... thought I maybe could use Audacity to remove at least some of this crackling sound but I'm not sure what function would be able to help me with this or if it's even possible? It's possible to reduce the bursts of loud crackles so they are the same amplitude as the rest of the audio ... sample b...

Re: Splitting Stereo, Editing each side in Mono = PROBLEM!

I recently discovered this free PseudoStereo plugin [Windows only] ... Modern 'Spacer' VST plugin [can do Pseudo-Stereo].gif http://antress.blogspot.co.uk/ You could probably achieve similar results with Steve's Pseudo-Stereo + Audacity's equalizer , but "Spacer" does have the advantage th...

Re: first track feedback on restoration

If you have the time could you explain how you did the "dynamic-range-compression" Audacity comes with a compressor , and something called " SC4 " which is also a compressor, ( I used SC4 on the remix above). Other compressors can be installed in Audacity, like the popular "...

Re: first track feedback on restoration

I just noticed the 'show clipping' option. When I do that i see the track as normal but a few spots had a red line thru. That's the clipping I assume. How do I fix that? Envelope tool? "Amplify" the track to -1dB , (rather than the default 0dB) , before you save a copy as MP3 format ... -...

Re: first track feedback on restoration

one tiny bit of clipping ... clipping on '1_partial'.png It may have not been clipping before you converted to mp3. When saving as mp3 leave a little headroom , say -1dB, before converting to avoid clipping on the mp3. IMO the attack of the accordion is to steep : the onset of most chords on it are ...

Re: MP3 quality

... what I'm noticing after publishing is that when it gets converted to an MP3 file parts of the recording are going loud and soft. Really annoying as I can't hear it before then and so can't edit it. IMO conversion to mp3 can't* be responsible parts being unacceptably loud or quiet, I suspect the...
