Re: Assistance with hiss diagnosis
I checked those settings, and they all match what you listed. The only remaining thing I can think of is an audio-driver [ conflict? ] problem ... http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/1530985 If it is a due to audio-drivers, the quantized hiss problem will not be specific to Audacity, e.g. will also ...

Re: Assistance with hiss diagnosis
I've been playing with the input volume in Audacity, along with changing the level on the mic itself. It seems like if I turn up the input volume any higher than 0.03 - 0.05, I start to get the hiss. This is even with the mic volume turned pretty low. The best levels I seem to get are with the mic ...

Re: How to improve sound quality and decrease file size?
...decrease file size... Use mono rather than stereo if possible. Reduce sample-rate to 16kHz for telephone conversation (maybe even lower). Reduce mp3 bit-rate to the lowest you can tolerate, (this will degrade the audio quality). [a similar question (&answer) here ... http://forum.audacitytea...

Re: Assistance with hiss diagnosis
Thanks for letting me know that it wasn't using the soundcard, and for the tip about the other recording devices. I disabled the other recording devices and tried recording again. Still having the hiss. Experiment with adjusting the "input volume" in Audacity in conjunction with the mic g...

Re: Assistance with hiss diagnosis
I'm thinking maybe an issue with the mic itself, or maybe a crappy soundcard in the laptop, but don't know enough to say with any certainty that upgrading those will help. I've tried recording on a couple other machines, with similar results... maybe they all have crappy soundcards though too. Hopi...

Re: Improving a voice recording with heavy clipping
Thank you, Trebor, that improved the quality a bit. I was wondering though, if the de-clicking and de-crackling that you mention in the other median plugin thread would be useful in this case. Your "original.mp3" isn't clicking or crackling, so de-clicking and de-crackling software aren't...
