The latest MAC version of Audacity is 64-bit, (PC is still 32-bit).

It's not necessary to key-in a decimal point into that particular effect ...
Either use the slider, or just type-in numerals, using the decimal-point generated in the fields.

My understanding is that noise floor refers to the background noise present in a take, and RMS refers to the db of the performance itself. If that’s the case, why would the performance take cause the noise floor to spike? I thought the values were unrelated? RMS value is performance plus noise-floo...

If you have the option of changing the audio host in Audacity, try the different options. If that does not cure the problem I'd try Audacity's free competitor OCENaudio which has the option of ASIO driver.
