Audacity will blow up an 8Khz 3Mb Wav to something huge ... Re-sampling at a higher bit-rate will increase file size, without any increase in sound quality. I want to make a mono sound from a stereo wave file. But I only want to save the sound from left channel. Any sound from right channel should be removed. Rather than do that, just run it once but with increased "Levelling amount": from 33% to say 66%.
(and if you need maximum loudness, reduce the "Limiter threshold" from 1 to say 0.9 ).
