If you insert "clip boundaries" the cursor will accurately stick to them.

If exporting as a WAV, should I use 16-bit or 32-bit? I am exporting from Audacity to WAV ... I doubt anyone can hear the difference between 16-bit & 32-bit WAV. NB: Some software cannot play 32-bit wav. If converting MP3 to WAV, do I make sure the MP3 is INSANE quality first? ... WAV => MP3 =>...

The de-whine notches in that code are specific to your set-up, (e.g. probably won't work on another computer).
The de-whine code only makes a subtle improvement ...

The white-noise is much louder than the actual-audio,
so an upside-down noise-gate will replace the noise with silence
Then you can truncate that silence.

The external mike does not even appear in the "devices".

You may need to enable the external microphone in Windows recording devices,
(Audacity can only record from enabled devices)
