Re: popping noise after every note I record

audacity clicks after sound.wav (1.1 MiB) I would bet it's a sound in the room, e.g. the valves of the brass instrument, or a creaky chair / floorboard. The click sound is definitely not digital: there's a hint of room-reverb when slowed down ... audacity clicks after sound, then quarter speed.wav ...

... I ticked something once which caused the waveform to stretch vertically and offset so "0" was at the bottom of the display. No negative waves were displayed.
Sounds like "half-wave" ...

"zoom* reset" undoes the "half-wave" display, (*even if you have not zoomed).

Re: Opinion/advice on how to reduce hi-hat / hiss-static-distortion?

I have a digitization of a 40 year old 1st cassette tape recorded from radio, it sounds "OK" to me, listenable, apart from some annoying sharp almost static/distorted sound on the hi-hat. Not sure if it's just because of old tape / radio recording, but I suspect the digitization has some over the t...

Re: Tinny sound quality

Digitising classical LPs I am getting a tinny and slightly muffled result ... If they are pre-1960 you may need a brand-specific de-emphasis equalization ... https ://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/78rpm_playback_curves as the standard RIAA equalization built-in to your hardware is not going to match t...

... I have selected the range from 30 to 200 Hz looking for traces of harmonics ... Need to increase the spectrogram FFT "window size" to 8192 or higher to see detail in low frequencies like 50/60Hz. Can also use Audacity's frequency-analysis plot ... https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/plot_spectr...

... On the new laptop, it won't let me separate the input single to left and right and just comes into the software as mono ... Please if someone can let me know what to do ... If it's only recording the left channel, (as dual mono), have a look at your recording device properties (advanced) to see...

Re: Help in removing noise

... there is background noise which I am unable to remove. I have tried a lot of effects, but with no good. Please guide me fellow users. Thank you ... The background pump-noise occupies the same frequency-range as speech, so if you turn Noise Reduction up high enough to remove it the voice will be...

Re: beeping noise coming up in recording

... I just listened to a recording I did last week and the hum is much quieter in that recording ... The position (routing) of a microphone cable can determine how much mains-hum it picked up by it. Try to keep the microphone cable away from mains cables, (which can be hidden in walls/floor https:/...

Can you suggest me a more advanced way to find the correct speed ?
If the recordings have mains-hum (50/60Hz & harmonics thereof) you could use that as a reference, (see the spectrogram).
If the speed varies throughout you need something like Celemony's Capstan.

Like Steve said earlier in this thread, there is other free software to edit mp3 losslessly.
