Re: Does Audacity 2.3.3 have function to smooth sound?

Dynamic range compression could make the envelope straighter, but more horizontal rather than sloped.
(Then you could add back the slope with the envelope tool).
But I doubt you'll be able to hear any difference by straightening-out the slight undulations the envelope.

Re: Newbie WAV question

If you're getting an unexpected exact doubling in file size,
then you could be doubling the bit-depth, or doubling the sample-rate, or making stereo file from a mono original.

Re: Newbie WAV question

... I understand that a WAV file can contain either lossy or lossless audio. All the WAV options Audacity has to offer are uncompressed. Only compressed formats can be lossy or lossless. e.g. MP3 is lossy, FLAC is lossless. ... I save the exact same recording as a lossless project, it again saves t...

Re: Does Audacity 2.3.3 have function to smooth sound?

Even if you went to the effort of making the upper-envelope ruler-straight, it would make little difference to the sound.

... so that the Samson Mic is NOT flashing red.
The flashing red light is nothing to do with bit-depth & sample-rate,
It indicates clipping, (i.e. the mic gain knob is turned-up too high).

Re: Problem with USB Microphone and Laptop recording

... tell the program that only sound above for example -25 will be detected? That's what a noise-gate does: only volume above a threshold gets through unattenuated. Now the bad news: gating can sound weird, it's jarring/stilted, and the crickets will still be present when you speak. Someone told us...

Re: Problem with USB Microphone and Laptop recording

It may be worth trying a better quality USB lead if you have one. Some USB leads have one or two "ferrite beads" which can help to reduce the noise from USB power. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/73/Cable_end.JPG/330px-Cable_end.JPG Can buy clip-on ferrite-cores ~US...

Re: My audio and video sync at start but is out of sync at end.

Change speed of the audio so the durations match.

Change tempo can also fix this type of sync problem but it adds artefact noises.
