Re: Automatic levelling of volume in mix
Audacity automatically mixes track volumes to give an overall constant volume ... It didn't do this before, so I suspect there is somewhere in the default settings that an option exists that I need to know about. I think you'll find it's Windows, (not Audacity), equalizing the loudness level ... un...

With each of the stereo tracks, split to mono , then delete the silent tracks ... https://manual.audacityteam.org/m/images/a/a3/splitting_and_joining_stereo_tracks_02.png The ...

Re: Meeting ACX Check makes my audio sound overdriven
MXL770 Microphone Audio Test Attachments Catskill Farms MXL770.wav RAW WAV (1.01 MiB) I'm nitpicking: There's a bassy resonance on "farm's rich" , & a high-pitched twang on "Green" . They could be caused by being too close to the mic, or the way the mic is mounted. ''Catskil...

but IMO they're only useful to reduce slight reverb, (your example is strong reverb).

Re: slight "boxy" sound on voice recording
There's a lot of reverberation on that.
Reverb(eration) is largely incurable. Expanders like couture can reduce it a little.
IMO sacrificing the bass & de-essing improves intelligibility ...

Re: How do I remove that background noise..
I still can hear the hissing sound in the background ... Maybe that's the best Ill be able to muster given my setup. You'll definitely need to use some Noise Reduction to get the noise down to ACX specification (-60dB). Couture is a free expander plugin which will squash down the hiss noise between...

Re: How do I remove that background noise..
Attached a wav file of an intro to a book I'm doing. I can't seem to figure out how to remove the background noise from the recording. ... Tethers.wav Intro (1.51 MiB) The magic-ingredient you're missing to remove the background noise is Mosquito Killer on 2 to get rid of the faint constant whine ....

Re: Digitalization music cassettes --- AC hum?
Steve's de-hum filter is worth a try ... viewtopic.php?p=207481#p207481
but if the tape is not running at a constant speed you'll need a de-hum filter which tracks the varying frequency.

Re: slight "boxy" sound on voice recording
... just did an interview for podcast and subject sounds great, but my voice has a slight "boxy" sound. I clearly was not properly positioned for the mic and this isn't a big deal, but if there's an easy way to adjust it, I'd love to learn ... Equalization can help, but it's bespoke: you'...
