Re: Compiling mac Audacity 2.0.4+ (current HEAD)

Thanks Gale! That might be the problem as I have not been following that guide... I will give it a go immediately :) I believe there are some pages in the non-wiki part of the site that should be updated to point to that particular wiki page, if that is the officially maintained guide. I got to this...

Compiling mac Audacity 2.0.4+ (current HEAD)

I have already compiled Audacity HEAD (after 2.0.4 plus my own mods) with success under Windows XP and I thought I'd set up my OSX partition too. I'm not successful yet.. I've come a good way - but you're probably not interested in knowing what I have made work, and if so please skip to next paragra...

Re: Extremely slow Auto Duck - and a solution.

I would like to advocate that the buffer be increased to 256K samples (i.e. 262144 samples), as I have a slightly better performance with this setting compared to the 128K samples buffer. What are your RAM and GHz specifications, and operating system? Gale I run Win XP Home on a 2.2 GHz core2 duo I...

I would like to advocate that the buffer be increased to 256K samples (i.e. 262144 samples), as I have a slightly better performance with this setting compared to the 128K samples buffer. For a very long project I see a time reduction of around 20% (this is in contrast to the doubling of speed I had...

Re: Extremely slow Auto Duck - and a solution.

That's great :)

Btw I just spent most of a day hunting down and installing the correct driver for my harddisk, and now my computer too runs one minute auto duck in 3-4 seconds - for the increased buffer version.

Re: Extremely slow Auto Duck - and a solution.

Alright, I must admit my PC seriously blows when it comes to disk operations! :) But I just tested on 2 other Windows PCs: - My children's WinVista laptop - An old (and quite unstable) WinXP destop PC For both systems there was an incredible difference between running the ordinary Audacity and my in...

Re: Extremely slow Auto Duck - and a solution.

I think there must be something else going on as you get very different results to what I see. 5 mins stereo 44100 Hz sample rate -> 1 min 8 seconds processing time. (50% CPU load, equal to one processor core at 100%) There is no excessive disk activity. My computer is a cheap Acer laptop running L...

Re: Extremely slow Auto Duck - and a solution.

I apologize for posting the above in the wrong part of the forum...
I suppose it should have gone in the "bugs" section.

Extremely slow Auto Duck - and a solution.

I have been using Audacity for some hobby projects for several years now, and as I started to use the Auto Duck feature I immediately wondered what made it so slow?? For a 4:30 song it would take over 20 minutes to complete - on my system. I quickly discovered that it didn't use any CPU at all and m...
