Re: Problems with the new Noise Reduction replacing Noise Re
Thank you, that is very helpful and a good temporary fix. Is it possible to have the old Noise Removal feature as a ‘plug-in’ for people that would like to continue to use it? It would be very helpful if you could supply actual audio samples that demonstrate examples of where the old effect out-per...

Re: Problems with the new Noise Reduction replacing Noise Re
Thank you for the feedback. I don't always get to record in a 'perfect' studio environment, so sometimes you get a small background noise, like a fan sound or other equipment. So, if I am in this situation, I use the old 'noise removal tool' in the standard default setting and it removes the backgr...

Re: Comparing Noise Removal/Reduction between 2.0.6 and 2.1.
Thanks, Peter. I hope it is good for fan noise too. But it is true this may not be the thing for vinyl crackle.

I would hope it is adequate for that task. If it is not, let me have some examples.Gale Andrews wrote:
Isn't this effect meant for noise from recording the internet and for sound card hiss? That is the main problem I test it for.

Re: Problems with the new Noise Reduction replacing Noise Re
I can understand that, which accords with the documentation. But I don't completely understand how higher sensitivity would make the desired sound "metallic" or how "metallic" is different from "tinkle-bells" which is what the noise-reduced sample in this topic sounds like to me. Right, as I said, ...

As always Robert, precise Nyquist code to reproduce your examples is welcome.

Re: Comparing Noise Removal/Reduction between 2.0.6 and 2.1.
With the material I have (subtle quiet sounds against vinyl or internet transmission/sound card noise) the default Sensitivity would better be 12. With that change I get marginally better results than in 2.0.6 but to get a result that is better than "just about acceptable" there is still the same e...

Re: Problems with the new Noise Reduction replacing Noise Re
darrendeans, I am confused by your examples. You first complained that breaths and other sounds come out "metallic" which could result from too high sensitivity or too little frequency smoothing On the documentation http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/noise_reduction.html it should be noted that w...

You first complained that breaths and other sounds come out "metallic" which could result from too high sensitivity or too little frequency smoothing, if those are the only distortions you notice. But the pre-treatment example does not sound like a breath...
